The useful dungeon question is not “what is the rarest item?” It is “which available run gives my group something worth comparing?” Start with the slot you want to improve and a source association you can investigate.

A shortlist, not a best-in-slot ranking. These are dated public client records with historical community source observations. We have not independently playtested these items. Class proficiency, source access and current tooltips need checking. The records were refreshed to build 1.60.1.70338 on October 11; later server hotfixes can still differ.

Search by dungeon and boss

The dungeon loot finder now covers 13 dungeons, with filters for item name, boss, slot, equipment requirement and acquisition evidence. Open a dungeon page to see its own planning notes and complete public equipment associations. City of Dalaran is shown as an evidence gap until supported loot links are available.

Choose the run before promising the reward

Several source records explicitly name Shadowfang Keep or Blackfathom Deeps; others name only a creature. Treat the first as a route lead and the second as a question to resolve. Check the current dungeon access guide, your group’s access and the relevant live source before advertising a loot run.

A historical observation means the provider has an association reported by players. It does not tell us the current drop chance, a guaranteed number of attempts, or whether a later hotfix changed the item. We omit inherited percentages from these guides because presenting them as current beta probabilities would overstate the evidence.

Agree on what a useful run looks like

Tell the group whether your goal is a gear comparison, a quest completion or encounter testing. Check loot expectations before entering. Keep a second useful objective so a run without the target item can still answer a question about your build, spell ranks or group coordination.

Prepare a fallback for the same problem

If you need a recovery cloak, investigate a quest-source alternative such as Traveler’s Shawl while confirming its actual prerequisites. If you need a main hand for a shield setup, compare Face Smasher and Baron’s Scepter as separate damage-and-stat budgets. A fallback is a useful alternative, not a promise that it is faster to acquire.

What to record after the run

  1. Current realm and build, dungeon and source creature.
  2. The observed item ID and complete tooltip.
  3. Whether the source actually dropped the item or was only expected to.
  4. The stat tradeoff against your current equipment.

One observed drop can support an association; it cannot establish a probability. Send reproducible corrections through Contact so the next reader can distinguish a fresh observation from an inherited record.
