A tank upgrade should solve a named problem. If dangerous pulls exhaust the healer, survival may matter more than a small offensive gain. If enemies leave you for the group, changing only a defensive slot may not address the cause. Start with the behavior you can observe, then choose a comparison.

Compare a complete defensive setup
Keep one-handed weapon and shield choices separate from two-handed damage setups. Face Smasher and Baron’s Scepter let you inspect different main-hand stat budgets without deliberately dropping the shield. Thornwoven Shield is a quest-source candidate, but its level-one equipment requirement does not describe the quest’s difficulty.
Armor type is a real restriction. Blackrock Harness is leather, Tortoise Armor is mail, and neither should be called the best chest for every tank. Read the armor number beside the stats you would lose. A Defense stat is not evidence of reaching a defensive cap or becoming immune to a particular attack.
Use resistance gear for a known damage school
Rugged Spaulders spreads a small budget across several resistances; Satyrskin Cloak includes Fire Resistance. A combat log that shows a specific school gives those values context. Without that evidence, compare them with ordinary armor, Stamina and useful effects instead of building a resistance set by colour.
A simple two-pull comparison
- Write down your current armor, health and the slot being changed.
- Keep the healer, pull size and other equipment as similar as practical.
- Compare health dips, healer recovery pauses and enemies leaving you.
Two pulls are a starting observation, not a statistical ranking. Note unusual critical hits, different enemies and changed cooldown use before attributing the result to one item.
