A Skyborne character has two connected decisions: which faction you want to join and which class you want to play. Make those decisions together before spending time on appearance or a name.
The announced starting options
Blizzard identifies Zephras Isle as the Skyborne starting experience for levels 1–12. Faction is chosen during character creation. Windshaper Skyborne join the Horde; High Order Skyborne join the Alliance.
| Faction | Available classes | Distinct option |
|---|---|---|
| Horde · Windshaper | Druid, Hunter, Rogue, Shaman, Warrior | Shaman |
| Alliance · High Order | Druid, Hunter, Mage, Rogue, Warrior | Mage |
Both sides share four class choices. If you want a Skyborne Mage or Shaman, faction is part of that choice. Check the live character-creation screen before committing; this table reflects the published announcement.
Use a three-line group plan
Ask your friends to agree on region, faction, and ruleset. Then add everyone's intended class. This exposes a mismatch while it is still easy to change the plan. Our ruleset guide explains the announced grouping boundaries.
For example, a group that has already chosen Alliance should discuss a friend's Skyborne Shaman idea before creating characters. You can change the group's faction plan or reconsider that character idea; do not assume that sharing a race makes opposite factions compatible. This is a planning example, not a claim about transfer services.
Read racial abilities without inventing a ranking
The official overview lists movement and regeneration tools alongside passive traits. Read those descriptions in full at the source, then ask which situations you actually enjoy: exploring outdoors, playing with friends, or experimenting with a class. A useful racial ability does not establish a best race for every activity.
We do not have comparable combat measurements for the live beta. Treat damage rankings, supposedly mandatory race choices, and racial shortcuts through dangerous terrain as claims that need evidence. If you try an ability during beta, record the tooltip, the situation, and the result rather than turning one experience into a universal recommendation.
Plan an exploratory first route
Use your quest log as the starting point. Read the current objective, identify what it asks you to do, and complete a small cluster of tasks before planning a longer route. Search the quest finder when a name or objective needs clarification. Its partial public catalog cannot guarantee that every Zephras Isle quest is present.
Keep one unresolved question in your notes: a missing quest, an unfamiliar class interaction, or a location you could not identify. That gives the next session a purpose without forcing you to follow a guessed leveling route. No exit quest, boat schedule, map coordinates, or fastest path is asserted here.
Before you confirm the character
- Recheck the faction and class together.
- Confirm your friends' region and ruleset.
- Choose a full name with a fallback using the naming guide.
- Save any questions for a focused beta session.
