Two questions matter before installing Forever: can the game support your graphics hardware, and does the complete computer meet its minimum requirements? Answering the first question does not answer the second.
The announced architecture cutoff
Blizzard lists AMD Graphics Core Next 1, NVIDIA Maxwell, and Intel Skylake, or newer architectures, as the required GPU architecture families. The article explains that the updated rendering relies on RGBA16F UAV support in compute shaders.
| Vendor | Named architecture or newer |
|---|---|
| AMD | Graphics Core Next 1 |
| NVIDIA | Maxwell |
| Intel | Skylake |
Blizzard explicitly warns that its example compatible cards remain below the game's minimum requirements. A card can pass the architecture cutoff and still be unsuitable for the full game. Check the complete requirements linked from the official article before making a purchase.
Find the exact GPU model first
On Windows, Blizzard points to Settings → System → Display → Advanced display, or Device Manager → Display adapters. Write down the complete make and model, not just the vendor. On a laptop, note every adapter shown; the machine may list more than one graphics device.
A product-family name or release year is not a reliable substitute for that model. Similar names can cover different hardware. If you are unsure which adapter the game uses, consult the computer manufacturer's instructions and record the uncertainty rather than selecting a replacement from a guess.
Use three checks in order
- Identify. Collect the exact GPU model and the computer model if it is a laptop or prebuilt system.
- Compare. Check architecture support, then the complete official minimum requirements for the rest of the computer.
- Observe. If the current system is supported, test how it behaves in your intended settings and activity before deciding an upgrade is necessary.
This order prevents buying hardware to solve the wrong problem. A missing beta entitlement, a failed download, and unsupported graphics hardware are separate issues. Our beta access guide explains the account and launcher steps.
Measure one change at a time
For a supported system that runs the beta, record resolution, graphics settings, the location, and whether the problem is low frame rate, stuttering, a crash, or a failure to start. Keep the same scene when comparing a setting change. A quiet outdoor location and a crowded group encounter are different workloads.
Restore a setting before trying another if you want a useful comparison. Changing several options at once may improve the experience, but it will not tell you which one mattered. Do not report a precise performance gain unless you have repeatable measurements under comparable conditions.
What to resolve before spending money
For a desktop upgrade, check the computer's power supply, physical clearance, available connections, and manufacturer guidance. For a laptop, check whether a hardware change is actually supported. Those questions belong to the exact machine; we are not recommending a universal card or promising a target frame rate.
If you contact technical support, provide the device model, the error message, and the action that triggers it. Keep account credentials out of your report. The official GPU article is a starting point for compatibility, not a substitute for the current system-requirements page or a hardware diagnosis.
