Choose the activity first, then choose the Rogue tree. A build that solves your solo recovery problem may leave out the control, group support or defensive options you want in another session.
Which Rogue build should you start with?
Our recommended starting points at the current beta cap are:
- Leveling — Combat: flexible weapons and defensive utility: Solo melee damage.
- Dungeon — Assassination: Mutilate and finisher economy: Dungeon melee damage.
- PvP — Subtlety: opener control and a reset: Stealth control and reset play.
These are editorial recommendations based on the current public talent records, not independently playtested rankings. Every allocation spends 21 points at level 30. A legal calculator tree does not confirm your trained spell ranks, equipment or live server behavior.

Why we recommend this starting plan
- Sinister Strike is the straightforward builder for a route that avoids committing to a positional opener.
- Deflection unlocks Riposte and invests in defense while fighting enemies face to face.
- Blade Flurry is the level-30 payoff; off-hand specialization remains at four ranks to retain both Sprint utility points.
The allocated talents
Point order from level 10 to 30
This order reaches the allocation above while satisfying the current tier and prerequisite rules. Each level adds one point; it is a planning path rather than a timed leveling route.
- Levels 10–11: Improved Sinister Strike — add 2, reach rank 2.
- Levels 12–14: Improved Eviscerate — add 3, reach rank 3.
- Levels 15–17: Deflection — add 3, reach rank 3.
- Levels 18–19: Precision — add 2, reach rank 2.
- Level 20: Riposte — add 1, reach rank 1.
- Levels 21–22: Endurance — add 2, reach rank 2.
- Levels 23–24: Improved Sprint — add 2, reach rank 2.
- Level 25: Precision — add 1, reach rank 3.
- Levels 26–29: Dual Wield Specialization — add 4, reach rank 4.
- Level 30: Blade Flurry — add 1, reach rank 1.
How to play around the choices
- Use Riposte when its parry condition is met rather than treating it as an unconditional attack.
- Activate Blade Flurry with a safe second target nearby; avoid breaking assigned crowd control.
- Keep a suitable off-hand equipped and use Evasion or Sprint before a pull becomes unrecoverable.
No Assassination Malice and no Subtlety stealth package. Blade Flurry value depends on target placement.
When to choose another planFor a group damage focus, Mutilate below explores a different Forever play style; this Combat route remains a usable dungeon starting point.

Why we recommend this starting plan
- The whole tree budget reaches Mutilate, whose Forever tooltip adds value against poisoned enemies and generates two Combo Points.
- Ruthlessness and Relentless Strikes support successive finishers instead of Combat’s defensive utility.
- Improved Slice and Dice is for maintaining the buff through sustained targets, not a promise that every short trash fight needs it.
The allocated talents
Point order from level 10 to 30

- Levels 10–14: Malice — add 5, reach rank 5.
- Levels 15–17: Ruthlessness — add 3, reach rank 3.
- Levels 18–19: Improved Slice and Dice — add 2, reach rank 2.
- Level 20: Relentless Strikes — add 1, reach rank 1.
- Levels 21–24: Lethality — add 4, reach rank 4.
- Level 25: Cold Blood — add 1, reach rank 1.
- Level 26: Lethality — add 1, reach rank 5.
- Levels 27–29: Vile Poisons — add 3, reach rank 3.
- Level 30: Mutilate — add 1, reach rank 1.
How to play around the choices
- Check equipped weapons and poison availability against your current client before using the Mutilate route.
- Use Combo Points without overflowing them; plan the next finisher around the target’s remaining life.
- Reserve Cold Blood for a useful damage window and obey the tank’s control plan.
No Blade Flurry or Precision. Poison-resistant targets and weak weapons can change which route feels better.
When to choose another planUse the Combat leveling allocation for cleave or weapon flexibility; compare your own dungeon runs rather than assuming Mutilate wins every encounter.
PvP: Subtlety: opener control and a reset

Why we recommend this starting plan
- Stealth talents, Initiative, and Premeditation prioritize the opening sequence rather than sustained dungeon damage.
- Elusiveness improves reset availability through Vanish; its Blind benefit is for later levels, not this level-30 plan.
- Preparation is the final-point reset choice; taking it means leaving Hemorrhage unselected.
The allocated talents
Point order from level 10 to 30
This order reaches the allocation above while satisfying the current tier and prerequisite rules. Each level adds one point; it is a planning path rather than a timed leveling route.
- Levels 10–12: Master of Deception — add 3, reach rank 3.
- Levels 13–14: Opportunity — add 2, reach rank 2.
- Levels 15–17: Camouflage — add 3, reach rank 3.
- Levels 18–19: Elusiveness — add 2, reach rank 2.
- Levels 20–22: Initiative — add 3, reach rank 3.
- Level 23: Ghostly Strike — add 1, reach rank 1.
- Level 24: Dirty Tricks — add 1, reach rank 1.
- Level 25: Premeditation — add 1, reach rank 1.
- Levels 26–28: Serrated Blades — add 3, reach rank 3.
- Level 29: Heightened Senses — add 1, reach rank 1.
- Level 30: Preparation — add 1, reach rank 1.
How to play around the choices
- Decide whether the opener is for control or damage before spending Combo Points.
- Avoid applying a bleed to a target you intend to keep in breakable control.
- Use Preparation after a meaningful cooldown expenditure, with an escape route planned.
No Mutilate, Blade Flurry, or Hemorrhage. Reset value depends on decision-making and available trained abilities.
When to choose another planReplace Preparation with Hemorrhage if testing a damage-builder approach; Serrated Blades is already fully ranked to satisfy its prerequisite.
Rogue checks before you commit
- Forever moves and changes several Rogue talents. These allocations use the current local Forever trees. Blind is listed at level 34, so no level-30 gameplay step requires it.
For a dungeon, confirm the role with your group before changing talents. A healing or tanking recommendation here is for that stated role; a damage seat may need a different allocation and equipment. Read the alternative in the dungeon section rather than assuming one tree covers every assignment.
The PvP plan describes control, survival or support priorities at this point budget. It does not establish that every battleground, bracket or ability is available in the current beta. Check your character's trained abilities and the activity's current access before arranging a session.
Adjust one decision, then compare the whole session
Open the calculator link and save the initial allocation. Test against comparable opponents or pulls with the same gear, then change one decision. For leveling, include recovery and travel interruptions; for dungeons, include the group's pace and mistakes; for PvP, separate surviving an opener from contributing after it. Those observations help you decide whether this recommendation fits the activity you actually play.
Do not spend imaginary points on a higher-tier talent: the level-30 budget is 21. If a prerequisite changes after a patch, read the calculator's validation message before reusing an old link. The point-order panel on every build has been checked against the same rules as the calculator.
