Choose the activity first, then choose the Shaman tree. A build that solves your solo recovery problem may leave out the control, group support or defensive options you want in another session.
Which Shaman build should you start with?
Our recommended starting points at the current beta cap are:
- Leveling — Enhancement travel and melee sustain: Melee damage.
- Dungeon — Restoration healer with mana tools: Healer.
- PvP — Elemental positioning with Earthbound: Ranged damage and control.
These are editorial recommendations based on the current public talent records, not independently playtested rankings. Every allocation spends 21 points at level 30. A legal calculator tree does not confirm your trained spell ranks, equipment or live server behavior.

Why we recommend this starting plan
- Improved Ghost Wolf favors a questing session with frequent movement; it brings travel utility instead of another small combat-only investment.
- Shamanistic Focus reduces the cost of Shock and Lightning Shield, while Stormstrike creates an explicit follow-up choice for an eligible Nature spell.
- Four ranks of Flurry emphasize weapon swings. Mental Quickness adds an Intellect-based spell contribution, but this is not a weapon-independent caster build.
The allocated talents
Point order from level 10 to 30
This order reaches the allocation above while satisfying the current tier and prerequisite rules. Each level adds one point; it is a planning path rather than a timed leveling route.
- Levels 10–14: Thundering Strikes — add 5, reach rank 5.
- Levels 15–16: Improved Ghost Wolf — add 2, reach rank 2.
- Levels 17–19: Mental Dexterity — add 3, reach rank 3.
- Levels 20–22: Elemental Weapons — add 3, reach rank 3.
- Level 23: Shamanistic Focus — add 1, reach rank 1.
- Level 24: Anticipation — add 1, reach rank 1.
- Level 25: Stormstrike — add 1, reach rank 1.
- Levels 26–29: Flurry — add 4, reach rank 4.
- Level 30: Mental Quickness — add 1, reach rank 1.
How to play around the choices
- Keep an appropriate trained weapon imbue active and compare available weapon upgrades.
- Plan a useful eligible Nature follow-up after Stormstrike; do not cast a spell simply to consume the bonus.
- Use Ghost Wolf between objectives and keep enough mana for an emergency heal.
This allocation does not take Water Shield or Mana Tide. If asked to heal a dungeon, use the Restoration starting tree and healing gear instead.
When to choose another planFor a ranged-first session, compare the Elemental PvP plan, while recognizing that its control endpoint gives up the travel and weapon investments here.
Dungeon: Restoration healer with mana tools
Elemental Combat 0 / Enhancement 0 / Restoration 21 · 21 points at level 30

Why we recommend this starting plan
- Water Shield and Mindfulness put mana management ahead of extra damage talents; Water Shield must be chosen over another active Elemental Shield.
- Mana Tide adds a party mana tool, and Nature's Swiftness is the twenty-first point for a time-sensitive eligible Nature cast.
- Healing Focus protects healing casts from damage pushback. This route gives up Totemic Focus and most of Tidal Focus, so careless totem replacement still has a cost.

- Levels 26–29: Tidal Mastery — add 4, reach rank 4.
- Level 30: Nature's Swiftness — add 1, reach rank 1.
How to play around the choices
- Check Water Shield between pulls and after spending its charges.
- Place mana-support tools where the relevant group members can benefit, following the live tooltip's range.
- Reserve Nature's Swiftness for a useful eligible cast rather than treating it as passive healing throughput.
A dungeon damage role should use a damage allocation and gear. This healer tree does not establish Shaman tank viability.
When to choose another planFor an agreed melee damage role, use the Enhancement leveling allocation as a starting comparison and adjust to the encounter.
PvP: Elemental positioning with Earthbound
Elemental Combat 21 / Enhancement 0 / Restoration 0 · 21 points at level 30
Open pvp talent treeOpens the full tree with these ranks selected. Edit points, read current effects and share your own version.
Why we recommend this starting plan
- Earthbound gives Earthbind Totem an on-cast immobilize, making the final point a positioning tool rather than a damage proc.
- Elemental Alacrity shortens eligible casts, while Eye of the Storm reduces damaging-attack pushback. Neither makes every cast safe from enemy interrupts.
- Convection and Elemental Focus offer a cost-conscious base; the allocation sacrifices Lightning Overload and deeper Enhancement mobility for control.

- Levels 10–14: Convection — add 5, reach rank 5.

- Level 20: Elemental Focus — add 1, reach rank 1.

- Levels 28–29: Reverberation — add 2, reach rank 2.
- Level 30: Earthbound — add 1, reach rank 1.
How to play around the choices
- Make space before starting a cast and use terrain when an enemy can interrupt.
- Place Earthbind for a useful retreat or pressure window; an immobilize is not a stun.
- Save resources for a heal or repositioning decision rather than spending all mana on damage.
No Improved Ghost Wolf and no Restoration emergency instant. Call of Thunder is deliberately omitted because its effect is unavailable in the local public-data snapshot.
When to choose another planIf supporting allies as the main healer is your job, use the Restoration plan rather than stretching this damage allocation across two roles.
Shaman checks before you commit
- Public talent data describes the October 10 hotfix cache; October 8 official notes were checked on October 13. Trained spell availability and future hotfixes must be checked in game. PvP recommendations describe player-versus-player priorities without claiming any particular bracket is open. Legacy talents are outside these 21 class points.
- October 8 corrected Water Shield's mana display and misleading cooldown wording; use the current tooltip instead of an older screenshot.
For a dungeon, confirm the role with your group before changing talents. A healing or tanking recommendation here is for that stated role; a damage seat may need a different allocation and equipment. Read the alternative in the dungeon section rather than assuming one tree covers every assignment.
The PvP plan describes control, survival or support priorities at this point budget. It does not establish that every battleground, bracket or ability is available in the current beta. Check your character's trained abilities and the activity's current access before arranging a session.
Adjust one decision, then compare the whole session
Open the calculator link and save the initial allocation. Test against comparable opponents or pulls with the same gear, then change one decision. For leveling, include recovery and travel interruptions; for dungeons, include the group's pace and mistakes; for PvP, separate surviving an opener from contributing after it. Those observations help you decide whether this recommendation fits the activity you actually play.
Do not spend imaginary points on a higher-tier talent: the level-30 budget is 21. If a prerequisite changes after a patch, read the calculator's validation message before reusing an old link. The point-order panel on every build has been checked against the same rules as the calculator.
