Choose the activity first, then choose the Warlock tree. A build that solves your solo recovery problem may leave out the control, group support or defensive options you want in another session.
Which Warlock build should you start with?
Our recommended starting points at the current beta cap are:
- Leveling — Affliction: let longer fights repay the setup: Affliction questing and recovery.
- Dungeon — Destruction: deliberate cast and finish decisions: Ranged DPS.
- PvP — Demonology: protect the Soul Link partner: Pet-dependent survival.
These are editorial recommendations based on the current public talent records, not independently playtested rankings. Every allocation spends 21 points at level 30. A legal calculator tree does not confirm your trained spell ranks, equipment or live server behavior.

Why we recommend this starting plan
- Corruption and drain investment fit targets that live long enough for periodic damage and recovery to matter.
- Fel Concentration protects the chosen drain channels from damage-induced interruption; it does not promise protection from every interrupt mechanic.
- Siphon Life at level 30 adds gradual health recovery. It is not an emergency full heal.
The allocated talents
Point order from level 10 to 30
This order reaches the allocation above while satisfying the current tier and prerequisite rules. Each level adds one point; it is a planning path rather than a timed leveling route.
- Levels 10–14: Improved Corruption — add 5, reach rank 5.
- Levels 15–16: Malediction — add 2, reach rank 2.
- Levels 17–19: Improved Drains — add 3, reach rank 3.
- Levels 20–22: Fel Concentration — add 3, reach rank 3.
- Levels 23–24: Improved Life Tap — add 2, reach rank 2.
- Levels 25–26: Nightfall — add 2, reach rank 2.
- Levels 27–29: Malevolence — add 3, reach rank 3.
- Level 30: Siphon Life — add 1, reach rank 1.
How to play around the choices
- Start with manageable pulls and apply only effects likely to deliver useful duration.
- Balance health and Mana before Life Tap; do not treat health as free.
- React to Nightfall when it appears and use drain recovery when safe to remain in place.
Short-lived enemies can die before the setup pays off. Do not apply every periodic effect automatically to every target. There are no Demonology pet improvements, Curse of Exhaustion or Soul Harvest in this allocation. Resource recovery leans on the chosen Life Tap and drain investment.
When to choose another planFor more drain-focused play, replace Siphon Life 1/1 with Soul Siphon 1/3; its benefit depends on your other Affliction effects on the target.
Dungeon: Destruction: deliberate cast and finish decisions

Why we recommend this starting plan
- Bane and Cataclysm improve the cast-time and Mana sides of a Destruction plan without relying on a pet damage build.
- Conflagrate becomes available with a much shallower Forever investment than a copied endgame Classic tree would imply. It consumes your Immolate effect.
- The final point develops Conflagrate critical chance rather than adding a separate multi-target effect.
The allocated talents
Point order from level 10 to 30
This order reaches the allocation above while satisfying the current tier and prerequisite rules. Each level adds one point; it is a planning path rather than a timed leveling route.
- Levels 10–14: Bane — add 5, reach rank 5.
- Levels 15–17: Cataclysm — add 3, reach rank 3.
- Levels 18–19: Aftermath — add 2, reach rank 2.
- Levels 20–23: Ruin — add 4, reach rank 4.
- Level 24: Shadowburn — add 1, reach rank 1.
- Levels 25–27: Agonizing Flames — add 3, reach rank 3.
- Level 28: Conflagrate — add 1, reach rank 1.
- Level 29: Destructive Reach — add 1, reach rank 1.
- Level 30: Fire and Brimstone — add 1, reach rank 1.
How to play around the choices
- Give the tank time to establish the intended target.
- Consider remaining Immolate duration and target health before consuming it.
- Maintain Soul Shards for the abilities you intend to use and avoid damaging controlled enemies.
Ruin is 4/5 and there is no Suppression threat reduction. Confirm target assignment and tank threat instead of assuming talent points make aggressive openings safe. Consuming Immolate early forfeits its remaining periodic damage. This is a timing decision, not a rule to press Conflagrate immediately on cooldown.
When to choose another planFor a broader Destruction critical-damage emphasis, move Fire and Brimstone 1/3 into the fifth Ruin rank.
PvP: Demonology: protect the Soul Link partner
Affliction 0 / Demonology 21 / Destruction 0 · 21 points at level 30

Why we recommend this starting plan
- Soul Link makes an active demon part of the survival plan, so pet health and positioning deserve attention alongside your own.
- Fel Vitality and Demonic Energies support that dependency rather than spending the entire budget on your personal damage.
- Master Summoner and Fel Domination provide a recovery option after losing a pet. The prerequisite Demonic Sacrifice is included, but sacrificing the active Soul Link partner is not the default plan.
The allocated talents
Point order from level 10 to 30
This order reaches the allocation above while satisfying the current tier and prerequisite rules. Each level adds one point; it is a planning path rather than a timed leveling route.
- Levels 10–14: Demonic Embrace — add 5, reach rank 5.
- Levels 15–17: Unholy Power — add 3, reach rank 3.
- Levels 18–19: Improved Health Funnel — add 2, reach rank 2.
- Levels 20–22: Fel Vitality — add 3, reach rank 3.
- Levels 23–24: Demonic Energies — add 2, reach rank 2.
- Level 25: Demonic Sacrifice — add 1, reach rank 1.
- Levels 26–27: Master Summoner — add 2, reach rank 2.
- Level 28: Fel Domination — add 1, reach rank 1.
- Level 29: Demonic Brand — add 1, reach rank 1.
- Level 30: Soul Link — add 1, reach rank 1.
How to play around the choices
- Track both health bars and keep the demon from being isolated needlessly.
- Choose the pet for the tools actually trained and available on your character.
- Plan a safe resummon window rather than expecting a new pet to appear without interruption.
There are no Affliction cast-time, drain or curse-control talents. Unholy Power and Demonic Brand are partial investments. Soul Link lasts with the active demon; losing it changes the defensive situation. A resummon is also a vulnerable decision, not a guaranteed reset.
When to choose another planIf you prefer defense over the Searing Pain interaction, move Demonic Brand 1/3 into Demonic Aegis 1/2.
Warlock checks before you commit
- October 8 notes say the current pet is stunned while a new one is summoned. Demonic Brand's bonus pet damage has high threat only when its damage is Shadow; do not present the older universal high-threat behavior as current.
For a dungeon, confirm the role with your group before changing talents. A healing or tanking recommendation here is for that stated role; a damage seat may need a different allocation and equipment. Read the alternative in the dungeon section rather than assuming one tree covers every assignment.
The PvP plan describes control, survival or support priorities at this point budget. It does not establish that every battleground, bracket or ability is available in the current beta. Check your character's trained abilities and the activity's current access before arranging a session.
Adjust one decision, then compare the whole session
Open the calculator link and save the initial allocation. Test against comparable opponents or pulls with the same gear, then change one decision. For leveling, include recovery and travel interruptions; for dungeons, include the group's pace and mistakes; for PvP, separate surviving an opener from contributing after it. Those observations help you decide whether this recommendation fits the activity you actually play.
Do not spend imaginary points on a higher-tier talent: the level-30 budget is 21. If a prerequisite changes after a patch, read the calculator's validation message before reusing an old link. The point-order panel on every build has been checked against the same rules as the calculator.
